The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller was designed with the Analogue 3D in mind, but it needs a critical firmware update before it can be used with the new console. Both 8BitDo and Analogue have issued a warning to early adopters as the system begins shipping.
Analogue 3D is finally shipping; controllers must be updated
After delays, the Analogue 3D started shipping on November 18. Meanwhile, the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller, also delayed earlier this year, has already been in players’ hands. Some have used it with other platforms, thanks to its wide compatibility.
Now that the hardware is in circulation, both companies are telling users the same thing: don’t use the controller with the Analogue 3D until it’s updated. Failing to do so may lead to pairing or input issues.
Latest firmware brings key performance improvements
According to 8BitDo, firmware version 2.02 is “critical for all of the new Analogue 3D users.” Analogue echoed that, stating the update “provides optimal functionality.” The changelog lists improvements to analog stick performance, which could directly affect gameplay on the new console.
To install the update, follow these steps:
- Download 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 for Windows or macOS
- Launch the software
- Power on your 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller
- Connect it to your PC using a USB-C cable
- The software will detect the device and prompt the update process

While made for the Analogue 3D, this controller also works with the Nintendo Switch (both versions), Android devices, and Windows PCs. It features Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C support, and uses Hall Effect joysticks for smoother input. Metal rings around the sticks help reduce friction and wear.

The hardware is ready, but the software needs a quick pit stop. If you’re pairing the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller with the Analogue 3D, don’t skip the firmware update. Skip it, and the nostalgia trip might crash before it even starts.
